Victory over Lech to kick off the spring round #LPOLGD

It was hard to imagine a better start to the spring round. In the 19th round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Lechia Gdańsk claimed an impressive 3:1 away victory over Lech Poznań. Goals from Tomasz Neugebauer and Tomáš Bobček, along with an own goal by Antonio Milić, secured the win for the team from Gdańsk.

The first half began in perfect fashion for Lechia Gdańsk. The Green-and-Whites started aggressively, applied high pressing, and quickly pushed the hosts back toward their own penalty area. Their bravery paid off as early as the 3rd minute. After an attack down the right flank, Camilo Mena accelerated with the ball, cut inside, and played it to Tomasz Neugebauer, who placed a precise left-footed shot along the ground inside the post, beyond the reach of Bartosz Mrozek.

In the following minutes, Lechia continued to dictate the tempo, with most of their attacks coming down the wings. Camilo Mena and Tomasz Wójtowicz regularly won their duels, while Tomáš Bobček kept the opposition defenders busy inside the box. In the 10th minute, the Slovak striker came close to scoring after another delivery from Mena, but Mrozek reacted quickly and pushed the ball out for a corner. Shortly after, Wójtowicz surged down the right flank, beat his marker, and shot from a tight angle, once again denied by the Lech goalkeeper.

The hosts struggled to play their way out of Lechia’s pressing. Their attempts to respond consisted mainly of crosses and long-range shots, none of which seriously threatened the visitors’ goal. Lechia, on the other hand, remained dangerous after winning the ball in midfield. Following one such move, Aleksandar Cirković fired a shot from just outside the box that took a deflection and dropped into the goal area, where Mrozek reacted quickly to beat Bobček to the ball.

In the 28th minute, Lech finally found an equalizer. Leo Bengtsson cut inside and passed to Ali Gholizadeh. The Iranian’s first shot was blocked, but he made no mistake with the rebound, finishing from close range.

The closing stages of the first half were very intense. Lechia nearly regained the lead when Bobček carried the ball into the penalty area, laid it off to Kacper Sezonienko, who then set up Mena. The Colombian struck the ball powerfully, but it crashed against the crossbar. Moments later, Alex Paulsen saved Lechia with a brilliant stop from close range after a shot by Mikael Ishak. The score remained level at the break.

Three goals for three points

After halftime, Lechia once again played boldly and quickly turned their dominance into goals. Early in the second half, the lively Mena delivered a dangerous cross from the right, causing chaos in the Lech defense. While attempting to clear the ball, Milić made a mistake, sending it into his own net and restoring Lechia’s lead.

Lech tried to respond immediately. Following one attack, Antoni Kozubal came close with a header, but Paulsen produced an excellent save.

The key moment of the second half came just before the hour mark. Lechia capitalized on a turnover in midfield, with Cirković threading a through ball to Bobček. The striker kept his composure and placed a precise shot just inside the post, extending Lechia’s advantage and moving the Green-and-Whites significantly closer to victory.

Conceding again galvanized Lech, who pushed forward aggressively. Palma, Walemark, and Gumny entered the pitch, increasing the pressure and resulting in a flurry of crosses. Lechia focused on defending, shifted well as a unit, and consistently denied the hosts space. In the closing stages, Pllana made several crucial blocks inside the penalty area, while Paulsen confidently dealt with crosses.

However, the visitors did not rely solely on defense. After one counterattack, Bobček unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, forcing Mrozek into a difficult save, and following a corner kick, a Lech defender had to clear the ball off the goal line. Little changed in the final minutes, and Lechia returned home in high spirits, taking all three points from Poznań.
