Carver: We always focus on our approach to the opponent

On Saturday, March 21, Lechia Gdańsk will host Pogoń Szczecin. Ahead of the Pomeranian Derby, head coach John Carver met with the media.

How preparations for the match against Pogoń are going:

The opponents have lost only one match in their last six games. The fact that they won and we lost will not matter at all. We are facing a tough match. I watched Pogoń’s last game against Korona Kielce – it was a bit of a game of two halves. We need to stay focused for the entire match.

One victory can push a team higher up the table. We have to focus only on each upcoming game. I keep telling the players to focus on ourselves.

What the coaching staff’s plan is for Lechia’s attacking play:

It’s my job and the staff’s job to find a solution. We are considering every possible option and we believe this time it will work. Kacper Sezonienko as a striker? You’ll have to wait and see!

In my opinion, Pogoń are a very good team and they play a bit differently from other teams in the league. They like open play – sometimes people call it “basketball in football.” The game goes from one penalty area to the other. We always focus on our own approach to the opponent and how we will play. I’ve said it all along – there are no easy matches in this league.

The coach hopes for a high attendance of Lechia fans:

Regardless of how many fans come to the matches, the atmosphere is always incredible. And when we get close to 20,000, it shows how important these supporters are to the club. It would be great to see everyone here at the stadium.
