Carver: There were many positive moments

On Easter Monday, Lechia Gdańsk defeated Korona Kielce 4:2. After the final whistle, head coach John Carver answered questions from journalists.

Coach’s comment:

I’m delighted with the final result. For the first hour, we were fantastic on a difficult pitch. We coped well and made the most of our strengths. I had to make a few tough decisions regarding players returning from injury. Bobcek and Mena wouldn’t have managed more than 60 minutes. This is exactly the moment when you need to rely on substitute players. Sometimes, when you’re winning 3:0 against a very tough opponent, a bit of arrogance can creep in. I see this as another opportunity for development for my young team. We need to stay composed. At 3:2, Korona had nothing to lose and sent many players into our penalty area. We were under pressure during set pieces. I’m pleased that we showed character with the goal for 4:2. To sum up – there were many positive moments, but also a few things we need to improve. The most important thing right now, however, is the points.

Substitutions of Bobcek and Mena:

I spoke with them and told them they would probably play 45 minutes. We have Friday’s match in mind, which is coming up soon. We made this decision after consulting within the staff, as we have real-time fitness data. Mena had to come off at halftime, and Bobcek played until the 60th minute. There are no injuries and we are traveling to Płock with the full squad.

Tomasz Wójtowicz received a yellow card early in the match:

Yes, that was 100% the reason for the substitution. I didn’t want to give any reason for the match to end 10 vs 10.
