Carver: We need to return to our basics

Matchday 29 of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa will see Lechia face Piast Gliwice. Ahead of Monday’s match, head coach John Carver spoke to the media.

What kind of opponent the coach expects:

Piast have very good technical players, especially in midfield. They also have tall strikers, so we are aware of how and how many goals they score, but I’m focused on our team and how we will play. We need to deliver more quality balls into the opponent’s penalty area. I often emphasize that it’s difficult to win a match in the Ekstraklasa. We need to return to our basics.

The Biało-Zieloni had a ten-day training microcycle:

My team plays with energy, so we needed that longer break. When you have more than a week to prepare for a match, you can work on everything and recover well. Tomas Bobcek and Camilo Mena recently played one and a half matches after their injuries; they had time to rest and train properly. They are in much better shape than two weeks ago.

What kind of Lechia we will see against Piast:

I don’t want to say too much about tactics – that’s our secret. But after the last match, we worked hard to find solutions to play better. We also had more time, so I believe it will pay off.
