Carver: For us, this match is like a final

On Saturday, Lechia will play their final match of the season, facing Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza in Round 34. Ahead of the trip to southern Poland, head coach John Carver met with journalists.

The White-and-Greens’ manager emphasized his belief in the team:

Fans pay for tickets and they have the right to say what they want. What frustrates me most is the way we lost the last match, and I understand their reaction because I was angry too. But let’s be clear: at that moment, the situation slipped out of our hands, yet I was excited when I came to the club after the Arka – Termalica match. As a club, we have the opportunity to bring smiles back to our fans’ faces. Everything will be decided in the final match. We have our fate in our own hands.

We are doing everything we can to ensure our players are optimally prepared for the match. We are flying by plane to avoid an 8-9 hour bus journey. There will be no excuses.

In Nieciecza, suspended midfielder Ivan Zhelizko will definitely not play. Aleksandar Ćirković’s participation remains uncertain:

It’s a bit better because Aleks completed two training sessions with the team. He still isn’t 100% ready, but we still have two days before the match and I hope his condition improves. We will wait until the very last moment before making a decision.

The importance of the match against Termalica is enormous:

For us, this match is like a final, and if you want to develop and become a better footballer, you have to be able to handle situations like this. Everyone deals with pressure in their own way – it’s an individual matter. I’m not going to say there’s no pressure on the players, but if anyone wants to put pressure on someone, then put it on me.

We have already had many opportunities to get ourselves out of this situation – this is the last one. And we have to take it. If we don’t, we will face the consequences.
