Vladyslav Lupashko after #LGDWAR
Following Friday’s match between Lechia and Warta Poznań, head coach Vladyslav Lupashko spoke to the media. Below is a transcript of the White and Greens coach’s press conference.
I think everyone could see the huge difference between the first and second halves. In the opening 45 minutes, we faced a very strong opponent. We made two substitutions and the game changed completely. Camilo and Riki were not fully fit, but their quality helped us change the course of the match.
We have to wait for new players because we can see how many mistakes our youngsters make in simple situations. It is positive that Martin Szczerbiński is getting chances, but so far he has not converted them. Our opponents, on the other hand, scored with their first opportunity. That is where the difference in quality lies.
Danylo Malov and Samuel Kopásek missed the match. When did you learn that they would be unavailable?
We changed the line-up four times before kick-off. We were waiting to find out whether we would receive permission to register the new players. The issue lay with the football associations in the countries from which those players came.
Lechia improved after the break:
It was the result of the substitutions and our conversation at half-time. We have to remember that these players make a lot of mistakes. During the week, we tell them there is no pressure on them, but they cannot be afraid to play. When we lose the ball, we have to fight to win it back.
It is very difficult for them physically, even if they are mentally prepared. I said this to the players, and I also want to say it to you and the supporters: we need to find players who are motivated and genuinely want to be here. That is the only way we can change this situation.
Once we take shape as a team, our young players will develop alongside it. Of course, this should have been done during pre-season, but the situation is what it is, and we have to deal with it.
I also want to say that we need more belief in this Club and in our ability to change the situation. I want us all to believe in it together.
