Łódź on the horizon. Preview of the match between Lechia Gdańsk and Widzew Łódź
8 November is another day of league excitement at Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk. As part of the 15th round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa, our team will face Widzew Łódź in what promises to be an extremely exciting match. The first whistle will sound at 2:45 p.m.
In their last match, our players faced Radomiak Radom at Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk as part of the 14th round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa. Despite creating numerous chances and showing great fighting spirit, the visitors proved more effective and won 2–1. Bohdan Viunnyk scored our team’s goal in the final minutes of the match.
The match showed that the white-and-greens are capable of creating dangerous chances, but on that day they lacked effectiveness in front of the opponent’s goal. After this match, the team is approaching tomorrow’s game with a desire to improve and show their strength on the pitch. Every minute will be an opportunity to fight for maximum points with the support of the fans.
RIVAL PROFILE – WIDZEW ŁÓDŹ
There has recently been a change of manager at Widzew – since 15 October, Igor Jovićević has been the new manager of the Łódź team. Ahead of tomorrow’s match, he highlighted the offensive strength of our team: Although Lechia is low in the table, it scores a lot of goals. We must be very careful in this regard.
– The new Widzew coach is certainly very enthusiastic. He has brought with him an aggressive style of play. I’m not just talking about physicality, but about the way they play, how many players they use to attack the space. We know that this is a completely different team than in the previous round. They had an intense transfer window and many new players joined. Among others, Fornalczyk, whom I value above all for what he did last season at Korona Kielce. I think the new coach has brought a new spirit, especially in forward play – said coach John Carver at the pre-match press conference.
In the previous round, Widzew drew 1–1 at home against Legia. In their last away match, however, Łódź lost 0–3 to Motor Lublin. Widzew is currently 11th in the league table.
Since our last meeting, Widzew’s squad has been strengthened with several interesting transfers. Among others, Andi Zeqiri, a Swiss centre forward and representative of his country, who previously played for clubs such as Standard Liège, Genk, FC Basel, FC Augsburg, Brighton, Lausanne and Juventus youth teams, has joined the team. The defence has been strengthened by Ricardo Visus, a Spanish centre-back who spent last season at Almere City in the Netherlands and previously played for Real Betis. Another interesting acquisition is Senegalese centre forward Pape Meïssa Ba, who played for FC Schalke 04 last season and previously played for French clubs Grenoble, Red Star and Troyes. Stelios Andreou, a centre back and Cyprus international, formerly of Belgian club Royal Charleroi, has also joined Widzew.
