Sunday turned into a wild one for both Pogoń and Lechia players. In the 9th round clash, it was the White-and-Greens who came away with all three points, defeating the hosts 4:3. Head coach John Carver summed up the match.
Coach’s comments on the game:
It was another crazy match. Every time we come here, it’s a spectacle full of goals. I’d rate the entertainment level 10/10. Of course, it’s great to finish with a win, but as often happens with us, we make things difficult for ourselves — in the last 40 seconds I had my heart in my mouth. At first, I was worried because our fans weren’t there, but as soon as they entered the stadium, we started playing much better. I think it was a very tactical game, both teams adjusted their formations depending on the situation, and there was plenty of drama with VAR as well. Seven goals in an Ekstraklasa match is always nice to watch, especially for the fans — maybe we’ll have more like this on Saturday so everyone can enjoy the show over the weekend. I’d also like to thank the President of Pogoń for allowing us to train here on Saturday and to compliment the facilities. Not many teams would allow that. And of course, I’d have said the same even if we had lost the match.
On Tomas Bobček not starting:
Tomas came back to us with a knock after the international break. Since we won against GKS, we didn’t want to change too much. We also had a different situation with Matus Vojtko being out, so Miłosz Kałahur stepped in. Tomas has only been training with us for four days, so we had to be careful with his involvement. As you saw, he’s already giving us the confidence that he’s 100% ready. I must also mention the rest of the squad — especially journalists from Gdańsk know how much I emphasize the importance of the bench and numbers. Every player, whether they came on or stayed on the bench, was fantastic throughout. Their impact can be seen, for example, with Kacper Sezonienko’s goal.”
On Matus Vojtko’s health:
We still don’t know exactly how serious the injury is. In the match against GKS, he crashed into the advertising boards and suffered a small bone chip in his finger. The timeline for his return is still too broad. I think the upcoming international break will give him enough time to recover. He definitely won’t be back this week, but with good rehab, maybe he’ll be ready for the match against Wisła Płock.
What still needs improvement despite the win:
There’s always room to improve. For starters, we need to focus on not conceding three goals. Regardless of whether we win or lose, we always look critically at what happened and evaluate everything in terms of development. We’ll review it in the coming days — not today, because the emotions are still too fresh. Maybe we’ll analyze it during our six-hour journey back home. We want to prepare for the Polish Cup match, which is only three days away, and we’ll do it the same way we prepare for any Ekstraklasa game.
On possible changes in the Polish Cup match squad:
There will definitely be some changes, though not too many, because we know how important it is to start the cup well. But there are players who need minutes so they can help us in the later part of the season.
