Carver: My players never give up

There were plenty of emotions in the Tricity Derby. After the match, head coach John Carver spoke to the media.

Coach’s comment after the match:

I’m very happy that I’m not the first Lechia coach to lose against Arka in the Ekstraklasa, so tonight I’ll sleep well (laughs). It was quite an incredible and emotional game, considering the circumstances. I mean the pitch, which didn’t really help with playing proper football. Both teams tried to approach the game in the right way.

Arka’s first goal was a fantastic strike – if he scores another one like that in his career, he can consider himself very lucky. I think we made a few mistakes leading up to that situation. Our task became twice as difficult after conceding early in the second half. The most promising thing is that my players never give up. That’s something I’ve seen since the day I arrived here – we have great character and we never surrender. It was an especially tough moment because at 2:0 Arka had another chance to score. Alex Paulsen made a brilliant save to stop them. Taking everything into account, I believe the result was fair. If you look at Arka’s performances at home and how many points they’ve won here, you have to admit that in that respect they are the best team in the Ekstraklasa.
