In the 8th round of matches, Lechia Gdańsk defeated GKS Katowice 2–0 in front of their home fans. Coach John Carver answered questions from journalists.

Coach’s comments on the match:

Obviously, it is very important for us to keep a clean sheet, and we played against a very demanding team. However, we stuck to our game plan. All the players – including those who came off the bench – lifted this team. Certainly, as a team, we did not have the advantage in ball possession. I would like to praise everyone who takes care of our pitch, because it was perfect, and that encourages good football. The second goal at the end was a very nice feeling. I also think you all noticed the quality our new players will bring us.

Central defender Matej Rodin commanded the White-and-Greens’ defense well:

We definitely needed such a player. I’ve told you many times that this team needs more experienced players. What he showed on the pitch, how he managed the defense, proves to us how much he has played in our league. Just the phone call with him – before he joined us – already made me realize what experience he has and what value he brings.

Bartłomiej Kłudka took the spot at right-back. How is the competition for this position going?

I need competition, I want players in each position to make their selection difficult. If we look at the central defenders, we have two who did not play. I’ve repeated many times that I need four players for each position.

Tomas Bobček was absent, but Dawid Kurminowski scored a goal. Can we expect rotations also in attack?

Yes, that is exactly why we wanted competition in every position. It would be nice if Kurmin scored in every match. Tomas Bobček had a slight injury after returning from the national team; he could have been on the bench, but we made a different decision.

In the second half, the hosts lost control of the match. How can this be improved?

I have many ideas on how to solve this. Sometimes there are matches that you just have to push through.
