Lechia Gdańsk will begin August with an away match against Cracovia. The game kicks off on Sunday, August 3 at 2:45 PM.

The first question concerned the defensive problems of the team:

First of all, we need to be careful and consistent in what we do. It’s an issue that we’ve conceded six goals in two games. However, I can assure you that we are working hard on this aspect. We know exactly what our problem is. The players’ attitude is excellent, and we’ve done a lot of video analysis showing them how to defend. We try to solve every problem, and that’s my job. Everyone is working very hard, and the people at the top are also working on bringing new reinforcements to the team.

There was also a question about the Green-and-White’s full-backs:

Matus Vojtko and Alvis Jaunzems only joined us recently. Previously, they had trained under other coaches and need some time to adapt. But from day one until now, they’ve developed a lot, and I can see progress in how we defend crosses. We just need to translate that into our matches.

Cracovia is Lechia’s next opponent and currently leads the league table after two rounds:

We know we have a tough start to the season. I remember when we went to Kraków in May, we played, in my opinion, our best away game since I’ve been here. Cracovia’s squad hasn’t changed that much—they have a new striker, Dominik Piła, and a new coach. They’ve won two matches, so of course, it will be a challenge. They’ve only conceded one goal so far and are very well organized. It will be hard to break them down. But we have our plan, and everything depends on how we execute it. It definitely won’t be easy to create chances against Cracovia, so when we get opportunities, we need to take them. I expect good organization in defense.

Is the club looking for a goalkeeper to strengthen competition:

We are looking for a goalkeeper—that’s no secret. Everyone is working very hard to strengthen that position. We definitely also have a short squad in central defense. Mainly, we need defenders. Last season we had four center-backs. That’s something every team needs. Currently, we have three.

How does the coach assess the competition among young players:

Filip Koperski has a minor thigh injury at the moment. Bartek returned from a loan spell last season and is competing for the right-back spot. We already have a very young team. I said recently that we want to take a closer look at this developmental group and make sure they get more minutes. Right now, the most important thing for them is playing matches. These are players who are not close to the first team yet, but they are competing.

We talk a lot about set pieces. We need to improve in this area as well. I always say that if we have a tight game, a set piece can tip the balance. We need to find effective methods, but as the coach, I take responsibility for everything that happens on the pitch, including this element.
