Carver: We’re raising our bar and our standards
Saturday’s match at Polsat Plus Arena ended with a convincing 5:1 victory for Lechia over Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza. After the final whistle, head coach John Carver appeared at the press conference, clearly satisfied with his team’s performance.
Match summary:
In the end, the result is very good for us, but I’m even more pleased with the way we played. Sometimes, when you start a home match against another team from the lower part of the table, you feel an extra level of pressure. It was great to see how confidently we moved the ball. We’re disappointed only with the goal we conceded, but we scored five ourselves. It’s a great feeling — it’s the first time we’ve scored this many goals since I arrived here. We could have added another two or three goals. Of course, we’ve got a small problem because Ivan Zhelizko picked up his fourth yellow card, and it was a very soft foul. We will definitely look into the possibility of an appeal. To sum up: it was an excellent performance from the first to the last minute, and that makes me really happy.
The coach’s comment on Bohdan Viunnyk’s missed chance:
I’m not angry about it — I’ve already spoken with him. He told me that a defender blocked his passing lane to Dawid Kurminowski. He made his decision, he didn’t score, but I don’t blame him for that. When you win 5:1, it’s hard to criticise anyone. We’re raising our bar and our standards. There is always room for improvement, but today we will enjoy the victory.
