Carver: You Have to Take Your Chances
On Monday evening, Lechia were defeated at home by Radomiak. After the match, head coach John Carver shared his thoughts on the performance.
Coach’s comments on the match:
Losing at home is never pleasant. The first 45 minutes were not good. You have to take your chances — I’m not going to mention specific names. You also can’t stop attacking when the score is 2:0. Radomiak showed much more intensity; they now have a very good coach. It was clear they have changed their style of play. To sum it up, we could have taken something from this game, even though we lost.
On whether lack of finishing decided the result:
If you have those kinds of chances, you must take them. It’s not that we don’t know how to do it — we’ve already scored 23 goals this season. However, it doesn’t change the fact that we had four very clear opportunities and couldn’t convert them.
Why Lechia played with one striker:
It was a tactical decision. I feel that when we play with two strikers, we don’t fully control the midfield. If you win, it’s considered a good decision. If you lose, it’s judged negatively. Sometimes the opponent will simply be physically stronger than you. I will analyze this with the staff.
On Rifet Kapić coming off early:
It absolutely wasn’t because I was angry with him. These decisions can also be influenced by how a player has trained during the week. Sometimes the decision is not only based on football reasons.
On midfield struggling after Tomasz Neugebauer left the pitch:
The change was made because we wanted to have more attacking players on the field. To be honest, I liked Mohamed’s performance in the number 10 role. It was a risky decision, but given how the match was going, you have to take those risks. It’s a bit of a gamble.
