Clash in Katowice. Preview of the GKS Katowice – Lechia Gdansk match

Tomorrow, we will play our last away match of 2024. As part of the 17th round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa, we will face GKS Katowice. The match kicks off at 5:30 PM.

In our previous away match, we drew 0-0 with Korona Kielce. Now, we face another challenge in this tough season. On Saturday, we will take on GKS Katowice, and every point will be worth its weight in gold. The White-and-Green team knows that the league standings demand full commitment and determination, so our players will give their all to show their character and return to Gdańsk with their heads held high. Together—on the pitch and beyond—we will prove that Lechia never gives up!

GKS Katowice defends using a zonal system. They don’t defend man-to-man; their focus is primarily on protecting space. We know which spaces they defend less effectively, and we know when to attack them. When you’re up against three tall center-backs, perhaps it’s not ideal to bring the ball too close to the goal, but rather to attack the penalty area earlier. We’ll emphasize how to exploit the opponent’s weaknesses. GKS is a unique team, and that will lead to some adjustments in our style of play – said coach Radosław Bella during the pre-match press conference.

Based on what we have, we can still make certain moves. I don’t want to say that we have nothing to lose, because we have a lot to lose, but there will be a moment in the match when we’ll have to take risks. Since certain things haven’t worked so far, there’s no evidence that repeating them will yield a different result – added the White-Greens coach to the statement.

The biggest strength of GKS Katowice is their cohesion and the team itself. The squad has been built over a long period with the same coach, and they have developed strong automatisms. Everyone can see that, and it is definitely their strong point. They are a tall team, so set pieces are also dangerous for them, and they score goals from them, which we must be prepared for. Throw-ins and corner kicks – they are dangerous in these situations and feel strong in them, so we need to eliminate this threat and be ready for it – said Dominik Piła during the press briefing.
