Coach John Carver answered journalists’ questions after the match against Lech Poznań.
On how the coach feels about the fact that not only has he never lost to Lechia, but also won today’s match against Lech:
It’s a nice feeling, but really, it’s thanks to the boys on our team and the staff. I’m extremely proud of them all. Winning against such a tough opponent as Lech Poznań fills me with optimism.
On Camilo Mena’s health issues:
Camilo returned to play after a 3-month break in the match against Motor. Unfortunately, there was a risk that his injury could flare up again, so I decided to keep him out of the match against Lech to prevent that.
On whether Lechia has a problem with finishing attacks:
I know those shots should be on target, especially since we’ve been working hard in training to make sure that happens. This match showed that we need to work even harder on this.
On why Lechia had difficulty scoring more goals despite many good opportunities:
Our team is young, still developing both physically and tactically. I work on their development every day. The longer I work with them, the more situations like the ones in today’s match will turn into goals scored.
Does the coach still believe Lech could manage mid-table in the English League?
I still believe they are one of the best teams in the league. They were the favorites for the match and lost; that happens sometimes.
Does the coach enjoy the strong support from Lechia’s fans?
I do enjoy it, although such strong support is something new for me. I think the team’s confidence grows in line with the confidence of the fans. That’s how I explain it.
Did working on utilizing the space between the fullback and the center-back have an effect in the match?
We knew that Lech has a high defensive line, and we saw that as an opportunity to break through and drive a wedge into the opponent’s team.
What is the coach’s reaction to the offside and Bobcek’s foul?
Unfortunately, in both cases, my focus was on other things, and I haven’t seen the replays yet. After the conference, I’ll review everything and make the appropriate decisions.
