Coach John Carver answered journalists’ questions after the match with Puszcza Niepołomice.
Did the coach expect the match against Puszcza to end in a loss for Lechia?
To be honest, I didn’t expect a loss, although I knew this match would be different from the previous ones. The game was very physical and contact-based. Comparing both teams, I got the impression that it was a match where young boys were facing adult men.
How does the coach assess the referee’s performance in the match?
Every player should be provided with protection during the match, not just Mena, but when such a talented player is treated in the way he was in today’s game, he might start thinking that playing in this league isn’t for him.
What, according to the coach, was the reason for the team’s poor performance at the start of the match?
As I mentioned, this match was significantly different from the previous ones. Sometimes it’s easy to bounce back, but reaching the next level is much harder. I admit that today, despite a few flashes of good play, we weren’t the same team we were in the previous matches. Now we need to learn from the loss and, without hesitation, keep moving forward.
