Friendship match at Jasna Góra. Preview of the match between Raków Częstochowa and Lechia Gdańsk
On Sunday, 26 October, at 2:45 p.m., our team will play an away match against Rakow Częstochowa. It will be a match in the 13th round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa. We are facing a difficult match against a demanding opponent, but it is also an excellent opportunity to increase our points tally and remain on the winning track.
In their last league match, our players secured a valuable victory in Gliwice, defeating Piast 2–1. Ivan Zhelizko and Tomas Bobcek were the goal scorers, securing all three points for the team. Earlier, we drew with Wisła Płock in Gdańsk, with Kacper Sezonienko scoring the goal for our team.
– Rakow’s strength lies in their squad. Looking back at last season, they almost won the championship. It all came down to the last two matches. Overall, they have strengthened considerably and spent a lot of money on it. I watched their Conference League match, they were very good and impressed me. In my opinion, they should have won that match. When we look at their position in the league, it is not adequate. We are facing a very difficult match against a solid opponent – said coach John Carver at the pre-match press conference.
RIVAL PROFILE – RAKÓW CZĘSTOCHOWA
On 23 October, Raków Częstochowa played a match in the Conference League, drawing 1-1 with Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Republic. In their previous league match, Częstochowa played Cracovia in Krakow, losing 0-2. During the international break, the Częstochowa team played a friendly match against Polonia Bytom, which ended in a 1-0 victory. Raków last played at their home stadium on 5 October, defeating Motor Lublin 2-0. Currently, the Częstochowa team is in 13th place in the table, but it still has solid potential and can be a very demanding opponent on its home turf.
This season, Raków has strengthened its squad with several transfers, including Polish youth international Tomasz Pieńko, attacking midfielder Karol Struski, who previously played for Aris Limassol, and midfielder Oskar Repka, who previously played for GKS Katowice. Lamine Diaby Fadiga, an attacking midfielder with experience at Jagiellonia Białystok and clubs such as OGC Nice, Paris FC and Eindhoven, has also joined the team.
A particularly significant move by Rakow was the purchase of Jonatan Braut Brunes, a centre forward previously on loan from Oud-Heverlee Leuven. In addition, Imad Rondić, also a centre forward, was loaned to the Częstochowa team from FC Köln. All these reinforcements are intended to increase Rakow’s offensive strength and give the team greater tactical flexibility in the current season.
