The management of Lechia Gdansk is obviously very concerned about the dramatic series of lost matches, as a result of which our team is now in the relegation position, as well as the fact that we have been eliminated from the Polish Cup by a third-league club.
Furthermore, our board did not understand some of the bad decisions made by coach Szymon Grabowski in the first 10 games of the season, and sometimes even a lack of coaching support as such.
Nevertheless, having listened to the arguments of our technical director, Kevin Blackwell, and following his recommendation, our board will continue to support Szymon Grabowski and his staff, believing in their ability to lead the “White-Greens” to success again.
At the same time, our board would like to express its gratitude towards Kevin Blackwell and apologise for the disgraceful racist messages he received from some fans. Lechia Gdansk is fully aware of the decisive role he played last season, from the moment he arrived in November 2023 till our club’s promotion to the Ekstraklasa in May 2024.
President Paolo Urfer made the following statement after the board meeting:
“We feel pressure from outside to fire our coach, as other football clubs would do. However, we have strong moral values and respect the commitment and work of our coaching staff. Szymon has already learned a lot last season and of course he needs more time to prove that he can be a coach in the Ekstraklasa as well. I hope that good results will come back very soon and our patience and strong faith will be rewarded in the near future”.
