Lechia starts Turkish training camp with a win
Lechia Gdańsk opened their series of friendly matches during the winter training camp in Turkey with a victory. In the first test match, John Carver’s side defeated Serbian SuperLiga team Željezničar Pančevo 1–0. The only goal of the game was scored by Camilo Mena.
The Green-and-Whites’ opponents currently sit fifth in the Serbian SuperLiga, providing a valuable test at the start of preparations. From the first minutes, Lechia took control of the match and looked the better side in possession. Their dominance paid off in the 19th minute – after Bujar Pllana intercepted the ball and passed it to Bohdan Viunnyk, Camilo Mena calmly finished the move inside the penalty area. The Colombian thus netted Lechia’s first goal of 2026.
In the first half, Lechia could have extended their lead, but Viunnyk’s close-range effort was saved by the opposition goalkeeper. After the break, the game became more nervous, with many fouls and stoppages. In the 87th minute, following a cross from Anton Tsarenko, Kacper Sezonienko had a good chance to double the lead. No further goals were scored in the second half, but the referee handed out two red cards – one to a Željezničar player and another to Sezonienko in the closing stages.
Lechia still have three more friendly matches to play during their training camp in Turkey. Their next opponent will be Lokomotiv Sofia, with the match scheduled for Saturday, January 17.
