It was a match full of emotions and dramatic twists. In Matchday 2 of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Lechia Gdańsk lost 3:4 to Lech Poznań, despite leading 2:0 at halftime. The hosts remain without points, but a hat-trick from Tomas Bobčekand a promising attacking display offer hope for better results in the coming weeks.
The match began calmly, but it was clear from the opening minutes that Lechia came in with more energy. Pressing high and playing aggressively, the home team quickly took control. In the 6th minute, Kacper Sezonienko nearly got on the scoresheet, but Lech keeper Bartosz Mrozek made a timely intervention. Lech responded with set pieces, and Antoni Kozubal had a decent chance from a corner, but Lechia’s defenders and goalkeeper were alert.
The turning point of the half came in the 11th minute, when VAR awarded Lech a penalty after a foul by Ivan Zhelizkoon Mateusz Skrzypczak. Mikael Ishak stepped up, but Szymon Weirauch guessed correctly and saved the penalty, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
That moment ignited Lechia. In the 22nd minute, after a scrappy corner, the ball fell to an unmarked Tomas Bobček, who smashed it home for 1:0. Just eight minutes later, a brilliant pass from Sezonienko set Bobček free, and he coolly slotted in his second of the night. Lech were stunned and couldn’t find a way past Weirauch before the break.
Second-Half turnaround
But after halftime, everything changed. In the 47th minute, Filip Szymczak narrowly missed, and just moments later, substitute Gisli Thordarson capitalized on a poor clearance by Zhelizko and blasted home a volley to make it 2:1. That goal spurred Lech into action. In the 56th minute, Thordarson assisted Szymczak, whose sharp-angle shot deflected off Weirauch and trickled in—counted as an own goal.
Lech didn’t stop there. In the 64th minute, following a corner and a bit of chaos in the box, Filip Jagiełło found the net to make it 2:3. Then in the 70th, Ishak redeemed himself for the missed penalty with a close-range finish after another corner.

Despite the setback, Lechia refused to fold. They pushed hard in the closing minutes, especially through Camilo Mena. In the 87th minute, Zhelizko sent in a pinpoint cross, and Bobček headed home for his hat-trick, reducing the deficit to 3:4.
