No points against Zagłębie: #LGDZAG 0:2
Lechia Gdańsk’s 0:2 defeat to Zagłębie Lubin brought Matchday 22 of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa to a close. The goals for the visitors were scored by Mateusz Grzybek and Marcel Reguła.
The match began with an aggressive start from the “Miedziowi.” As early as the 2nd minute, Diaz found himself one-on-one with Alex Paulsen, but the Lechia goalkeeper kept his composure and made a confident save. A minute later, however, it was 0:1. In the 3rd minute, Diaz delivered a cross from the right wing and Grzybek won the aerial duel, heading the ball in off the crossbar to open the scoring.
After the intense opening, the game became more balanced. In the 11th minute, Lechia tried to respond with a cross from the right, but Tomáš Bobček was unable to get a shot away. In the 21st and 22nd minutes, Zagłębie attempted shots from distance, though they did not trouble Paulsen.
In the 27th minute, the visitors doubled their lead. Following a scramble in Lechia’s penalty area, the ball was only partially cleared and fell to Marcel Reguła, who calmly placed his shot by the post, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
As the half progressed, the hosts began to push forward. In the 34th minute, Bobček won the ball from a defender and attempted to lob Jasmin Burić, but the Zagłębie goalkeeper reacted well. Lechia spent more time in the attacking half, yet the visitors’ defence remained well organised. The scoreline stayed unchanged at halftime.
No change after the break
After the interval, the White-and-Greens immediately went on the attack. In the 47th minute, Camilo Mena and Bujar Pllana both tried their luck, but their efforts were blocked. Lechia won several corners, and after one of them Neugebauer appeared to be fouled in the penalty area. However, following a VAR review, the referee spotted an offside in the build-up and cancelled the penalty.
In the 54th minute, Neugebauer struck from outside the box, but Burić produced an instinctive save. Three minutes later, he denied Bobček from close range, and in the 63rd minute he made a superb save from Pllana’s header.
In the 64th minute, Bobček narrowly missed the target. Head coach John Carver opted for a more attacking approach, bringing on a second striker, Dawid Kurminowski. In the 80th minute, after a series of crosses and rebounds inside the penalty area, Zagłębie’s defenders blocked several attempts. Moments later, Kurminowski fired a powerful shot, but Burić was once again equal to it.
The pattern of the game did not change in the closing stages. Lechia continued to attack with crosses and long-range efforts, but Zagłębie’s defence remained focused and effective. Thanks to their strong start, clinical finishing and disciplined defending, the visitors secured the win.
