In the 11th round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Lechia Gdańsk hosted this season’s best newcomer so far, Wisła Płock. The visitors arrived in Gdańsk sitting 5th in the table with 17 points. The match ended in a draw, 1:1.
Both teams began cautiously, probing to see what they could afford in this match. The opening 15 minutes were played mainly in midfield. Lechia tried a few times to increase the tempo, but their efforts were consistently thwarted by Wisła’s well-organized defense.
In the 16th minute, Lechia finally injected some pace into their attack. Aleksandar Ćirković took advantage of a defensive mix-up, picked up a loose ball, and sprinted towards goal. The Serbian midfielder curled a shot with his right foot from outside the box that looked destined for the top corner, but Wisła keeper Rafał Leszczyński parried it for a corner.
Just minutes later, Ćirković had another chance. In the 22nd minute, Tomas Bobček threaded a through ball into the box. Ćirković controlled it well, setting up a shooting chance, and fired powerfully, but his attempt was blocked at the last moment by Marcus Sangre, saving Wisła from danger.
Lechia’s pressure continued. In the 30th minute, their dominance was rewarded. After a scramble in the box, Kacper Sezonienko showed great instinct to nip in front of the defender, control the ball with his thigh, and fire a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. Leszczyński had no chance. It was Sezonienko’s second goal of the Ekstraklasa season.
In the 43rd minute Lechia created another flowing move. Down the right, Kłudka – Sezonienko – Neugebauer exchanged quick passes, freeing Bartłomiej Kłudka inside the area. He drilled a cross toward Bobček, who tried an audacious back-heel finish but failed to connect properly. The score remained 1:0 at halftime.
Quick equalizer after the break
Both sides came out unchanged for the second half, but it was the visitors who struck. In the 49th minute, a volley from Wisła rattled the crossbar, and the rebound fell to Marcin Kamiński, who headed in from close range to level the score at 1:1.
In the 59th minute, Wisła nearly took the lead, but a thunderous shot was blocked by Matus Vojtko. Wisła’s coach made a triple change soon after, bringing on Lecoeuche, Pomorski, and Custović for Nastić, Salvador, and Djalo.
The visitors looked transformed in the second half. In the 65th minute, Dominik Kun found space in the box for a volley but skied it well over the bar.
Lechia tried to respond through Vojtko, who struck fiercely from distance in the 70th minute. Leszczyński spilled the ball, but Wisła’s defense cleared before any Lechia player could react.
In the 78th minute, Lechia threatened again. Dawid Kurminowski played a perfect through ball to Bobček, who charged into the box and aimed for the far post, but Leszczyński pulled off a sharp save to deny him.
Coach John Carver made his only substitution in the 83rd minute. Bogdan Viunnyk came on, replacing Aleksandar Ćirković on the pitch.
In the closing stages, the tempo slowed, and neither side created clear chances. In stoppage time, Lechia had two set-piece deliveries into the box, but neither resulted in a shot on target. The match ended 1:1, with both teams taking a point.
