Lechia Gdańsk leave Szczecin with all three points, winning 4:3 in a fiercely contested Derby of Pomerania. Goals for the White-and-Greens were scored by Rifet Kapić, Ivan Zhelizko, Dawid Kurminowski, and Kacper Sezonienko, who sealed the victory for his team in stoppage time.
From the very beginning both sides went on the offensive, and it was clear that another spectacle was in store in Szczecin. And that’s exactly what happened. Although the visitors had the first chance of the match, in the 25th minute Pogoń took the lead through a spectacular strike from Rajmund Molnár. Lechia, however, replied instantly – a brilliant combination between Camilo Mena and Rifet Kapić ended with the equalizer.
The first half still had more drama, as in the 40th minute Musa Juwara converted a counterattack, restoring Pogoń’s lead at 2:1.
Lechia fighting until the end
After the break, coach Carver introduced Tomas Bobček, who immediately added energy to the attack. The equalizer didn’t take long – in the 53rd minute Ivan Zhelizko unleashed a stunning long-range strike to make it 2:2.
Ten minutes later Bohdan Viunnyk was brought down in the box by Danijel Loncar, and the referee pointed to the spot. Lechia’s captain stepped up but was denied by the Pogoń goalkeeper.
The visitors, however, refused to stop pressing forward. In the 77th minute, relentless pressure from Dawid Kurminowski forced an error, bringing Lechia the lead at 3:2. In stoppage time, Kacper Sezonienko shone brightest – coming off the bench, he won the ball in midfield in the 93rd minute, surged forward, and coolly finished past the keeper to make it 4:2.
Although Pogoń pulled one back from the penalty spot in the final moments, it didn’t change the outcome. After a thrilling match, Lechia emerged 4:3 winners, celebrating a hugely important triumph in the Derby of Pomerania.
