Time for the Pomeranian Derby: Match Preview – Lechia Gdańsk vs. Pogoń Szczecin

As part of the 26th round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa, we face another challenge. On Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 17:30, we will play the Pomeranian Derby, taking on Pogoń Szczecin. This is a clash for regional supremacy, always delivering intense emotions and a fight until the final whistle.

We approach the Pomeranian Derby following an away match against GKS Katowice, which ended in a 0-2 defeat. That game did not go as we had hoped, so we are even more eager to make amends in the next match. Our last home game, however, looked completely different. At the Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk, we convincingly defeated Jagiellonia Białystok 3:0. The score was opened by captain Rifet Kapić, and after the break, Aleksandar Ćirković found the net twice, sealing the victory.

We are facing a tough match. I watched Pogoń’s last game against Korona Kielce – it was a bit of a game of two halves. We need to stay focused for the entire match. One victory can push a team higher up the table. We have to focus only on each upcoming game. I keep telling the players to focus on ourselves – said coach John Carver at the pre-match press conference.

In my opinion, Pogoń are a very good team and they play a bit differently from other teams in the league. They like open play – sometimes people call it “basketball in football.” The game goes from one penalty area to the other. We always focus on our own approach to the opponent and how we will play. I’ve said it all along – there are no easy matches in this league – added the White-and-Greens’ coach.
