Carver: We dropped two points

In Round 20 of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa, Lechia players shared the points with Cracovia. After the match, head coach John Carver commented on the course of the game.

Coach’s comment on the match:

First of all, I have to congratulate Cracovia for defending well while being a man down. Even when it was 11 vs 11, we were the better team. Because we had the numerical advantage, we also had more possession. Cracovia’s goalkeeper made many good saves, and we are disappointed because we feel we dropped two points rather than gained one. We have raised our standards and expectations, which is why we are disappointed with the result. However, if someone had told me we would get four points from these two matches, I would have been satisfied. When you play against ten men, set pieces are the most dangerous. After one long throw-in, a penalty was awarded against us. The important thing is that we are still unbeaten.

The Lechia coach made two substitutions during the match:

I have to be careful with my comment. We changed the right-back because we needed more energy on that side, and we also needed a second striker. We kept our wingers on the pitch because they are very creative.

He was also asked whether Cracovia proved to be a tougher opponent than Lech the week before:

Yes, today’s match was more difficult because of Cracovia’s setup. This team is comfortable with low possession and focuses strongly on transitions. Sometimes that kind of game profile is more difficult.

Tomas Bobček will not play in Lublin. How will the staff replace him?

We talked about it in the dressing room right after the match – after every game someone seems to be suspended, and now it has happened again. We still have two players at risk: Matus Vojtko and Kacper Sezonienko. Hopefully they won’t be suspended soon. We have to move forward; that’s why you have a wider squad – to make use of it.
