We’re back to league action. Preview of the Lech Poznań – Lechia Gdańsk match

After a few weeks’ break, we’re back to league battles. On Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 8:15 PM, we’ll kick off our 2026 campaign in the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa. To start, we face an away trip to Poznań for a match against Lech in the 19th round of the competition.

We spent the winter training period at a camp in Turkey, where we played four friendly matches. We kicked off by defeating Serbian side FK Železničar Pančevo 1-0, thanks to a goal from Camilo Mena. In the next friendly, we won 2:1 against Lokomotiv Sofia, with Camilo Mena and Bohdan Viunnyk finding the net for Lechia. The third match ended in a 1:2 loss to FC Hradec Králové, with Kacper Sezonienko scoring our only goal. To conclude the camp, we drew 1:1 with FK Mladost Lučani, with Camilo Mena netting the equalizer.

Our last league game was on December 5, 2025, at the Polsat Plus Arena. In the match against Górnik Zabrze, we claimed an impressive 5:2 victory. The scorers were Tomáš Bobček, who found the net twice, Kacper Sezonienko, also with two goals, and Bohdan Viunnyk.

After a solid preparation period, we now step into our first league challenge of the new year, ready to fight for more points.

I’m happy that we’re back. We’re excited. We’ve just returned from the camp in Turkey, and I’m pleased with the work we did there. I’m delighted with how the team worked. The only disappointment was Maks Diaczuk’s injury. From both a tactical and physical standpoint, it was a good camp. Last year we had a very good spring after the training camp, and if we repeat that, I’ll be satisfied – said coach John Carver at the pre-match press conference.

In Toronto, I also dealt with extremely low temperatures – once it was minus 27 degrees. You can’t really prepare for conditions like that; you just have to cope. I remember playing in Lubin against Zagłębie in severe frost as well. At one point, a bottle of water I placed by the touchline froze. What’s comforting is that the conditions are the same for both teams. I have no intention of complaining – I’ve experienced a lot in my career – added the White-and-Greens’ coach.
