Lechia Gdańsk returned to the winning track and showed their fighting spirit once again, defeating Piast Gliwice 3:1. The hosts thrilled the fans with goals scored by Tomáš Bobček, Bohdan Viunnyk, and Anton Tsarenko.
From the very first minutes, it was clear that the hosts were highly motivated and determined to secure the crucial three points. Lechia started the match confidently, controlling possession and consistently searching for ways to break through Piast’s defense. The long-awaited opening goal came early, in the 8th minute. After a short free-kick play, Kałahur smartly spotted Zhelizko, whose powerful shot slipped through Plach’s hands. Bobček, lurking nearby, reacted quickly and slotted the ball into the net, sending the home fans into a frenzy.
Piast tried to respond with quick counterattacks but lacked precision. Their best chance came through Rosołek, who found himself in a great position after a pass from Felix, but his shot was saved by Weirauch. As the minutes passed, Lechia continued to apply pressure, seeking more opportunities. Viunnyk had a chance to score after a nice move by Mena and Bobček, but the referee called offside. Lechia kept their intensity high, and just before halftime, when it seemed Piast might survive the half with only a one-goal deficit, Viunnyk showcased his skills once again. After a fantastic sprint past two defenders, he fired a low shot past Plach, doubling the lead.
They didn’t let the victory slip away!
Lechia started the second half with some worry, as the lively Bobček had to leave the field with an injury, visibly in pain. Neugebauer came on to replace him, but a momentary lapse quickly cost Lechia. After a free kick by Chrapek, Huk headed the ball into the net, reducing the deficit. Buoyed by the goal, Piast pushed forward aggressively. Lechia, however, handled the pressure well. Dropping back a little, they looked to strike on the counter, and with each opportunity, they launched fast, dangerous attacks. Although Piast dominated possession, it was Lechia who looked more threatening. Mena terrorized the right flank, while Tsarenko and Kapić kept breaking through Piast’s defensive lines.
In the 82nd minute, Lechia crowned their efforts. After a clever build-up, Khlan found Mena, who charged into the box and perfectly set up Tsarenko. Without hesitation, the Ukrainian fired a first-time shot into the net, sealing Lechia’s victory and igniting the stadium. Piast continued to fight until the final whistle, but the home team firmly protected their lead.
