CREST OF THE GREEN AND WHITE
Origins and evolution of the coat of arms
Lechia Gdansk’s coat of arms has evolved throughout its history. It has remained in existence since 1946 in a similar form to the one we’re seeing now. The initial version was described in national football periodicals as “a graphic-letter composition with a dominant triangular pennant motif.” This distinct product, perched on a spar and pointing to the right, has become an iconic representation of Lechia over time.
Return to roots and legal protection
Following the club’s revival in 2001, we refurbished its historic coat of arms, which closely resembles the initial one from the postwar period. In 2010, the three-year patent procedure that safeguarded Lechia Gdańsk’s coat of arms and name ended. Essentially, it implies that any use of the coat of arms (original or a close approximation) or the name has to be authorized by the club, which is a crucial phase in protecting Lechia’s identity and heritage.
Changes over time
Over the years, the coat of arms has undergone various modifications, often related to temporary changes in the club’s name by the authorities of the time, for example, to Budowlany Klub Sportowy Lechia Gdańsk, FC Lechia and Lechia-Polonia.
European trademark registration
Another significant step in the history of the coat of arms was the registration of the Lechia Gdansk coat of arms and the “LG” mark as a European trademark. This took place on October 24, 2016, further strengthening the position of Lechia’s coat of arms in the international arena.
A symbol of pride and tradition
Today, Lechia Gdansk’s coat of arms is not only considered as being a sports symbol, but also one of pride and tradition for thousands of fans scattered around the world. It’s rich history and evolution process reflect the club’s rich past while remaining an important part of its future.
